Background
The Italian school was founded in 1973 by a group of Italian Citizens resident in Zambia in order to ensure education for their children, based on the Italian education system. It was an Italian medium school mainly catering to the needs of the Italian community in Zambia at that time.
In 1996, it became an English medium Primary School with Italian taught as an additional language. The Zambian curriculum was largely followed during that period with classes going up to Grade 7. In September 2005, Grade 8 was added thereby starting the Junior High School that went up to Grade 9 and the school switched to the British curriculum. In September, 2009 the IGCSE grades were added with the first group of students sitting for the Cambridge Examinations in 2011. The A Level programme was subsequently added in 2015.
The Italian School of Lusaka is a registered Centre for Cambridge Assessment International Examinations and a Cambridge Professional Development Centre. The Italian School of Lusaka operates as a registered private educational institution under the Ministry of General Education of the Republic of Zambia. All the teachers are professionally qualified and registered with the Teaching Council of Zambia.
